Real Surf of Quezon province

To celebrate my best friend’s birthday we drove 4:00am in the morning up north in Quezon Province. We’ve heard about Real Surf through BEN. A new friend of ours who share the same love for travel, beach and parties.  He was actually in Myanmar couple months before I did my backpacking there.

I am new to driving and by far, this place is the farthest I have driven to. that is… with a few wrong turns and time asking around for directions.

Two Routes:

Via SLEX – This is the longer route which we took on the way. Better option though if you are traveling on rush hour from Manila. (approx. 5 hours)

Via Antipolo- Lots of curves and ups and downs on the mountain. Some say it’s dangerous to drive in here at night because of the steep and sharp curves. Some trucks and buses drive too fast and sometimes with no lights on! So careful driving via this route at night. (ap

prox. 3 hours)

REAL SURF (Real, Quezon)

It is easy to find because it is just along the road. The place is very new and quaint. One side is facing the mountain, the other… beach front. You can pitch your tent, rent a tent or rent cottages like the one we had for accommodations. Restrooms are clean, restaurant is not opened yet but you can go to the market beforehand and have it cooked by them.

We all were happy the entire day. Dancing, Smiling…Drawing on the sand with the kids…Jumping with the ocean waves… Laying on the sand watching the clouds move…eating and eating a lot…sighing for such a beautiful day! The staff are very welcoming, even the children playing on the shore. OR it’s just that we gave a positive energy to the place.

We were like kids who just got out of the house to play! And it was a perfect place to be!

Nowadays the usual “hang-out” with friends involves us being on facebook all day. Well it isn’t a problem here because there is no network signal! (if you are using Globe, all of us are!)

(One of the best things to do at Real Surf is to star gaze…)

After a few hours of jumping and dancing around out of joy you would see and notice how that vibe contagiously affected everybody. Tita Ellen who was a caretaker of the place was standing right next to us dancing to the beat of our music. then the kids follow the same thing! Isn’t that lovely?

“Be so happy that when others look at tou they become happy too”

Making the night even more special, Tita Ellen surprised my bestfriend with a self-made cake with candles for her to blow on her birthday.,, sweeet! ( see Jill’s blog about her experience.)

DSCF2289 small

At that very moment, everybody was suddenly in tears… Touched by how perfect and special the day turned out for everyone. An unexpected birthday celebration for a birthday girl, A sweet vacation for a couple, An uncle who had as much fun and met new people, and me for experiencing a predicted relaxed beach trip turned into something phenomenal.

We know it was just a quick get-away and none of us expected that that day would involve so much joy and fun. A true serendipity; rejuvenation. But for all of us, that day is something that happens because it was bound to happen. You got a Good company X Good Spot X Good Music X Good Party X Good life

Real Surf PH is our new fortress of solitude where are souls feel free and feel kinder again.

Thank you #REALSURFPH for such a wonderful experience!

Mt.Pulag: revenge bucketlist

I put this one on my bucketlist earlier last year. And I did climb that year! With group of people I barely know and an alarming bad typhoon. The best gear I brought with me is the courage and hope of seeing the sea of clouds. It was an unforgettable unique experience but it left my dream to see the sea of clouds at dismay.

Year 2015, I aimed to climb the same mountain seeking revenge for an unclaimed victory. Everything happened all of a sudden, I confirmed on the climb a day before because of my previous commitments. But due to some favorable circumstances, my meeting was cancelled minutes after confirming. I brought with me my best friend for a more fun-filled trip.

8pm/ November 19

We took the Van to Baguio with a group of 7ish (can’t remember) and to meet the others who arrived there earlier.

1:00am/ November 20

Arrival in Baguio. We had to wait for couple more hours before we can take the MONSTER JEEP up to Kabayan, Benguet.

Same process goes as my first climb, DENR Station and Ranger Station before the actual climb. check the link for a more detailed info:

Mt.Pulag 2014

The only difference is that, weather is better, there were no landslides and I get to TOP LOAD (ride on top of the jeepney).

November 20

Day of the climb. Like last time I hired a porter just so I can enjoy the view more and take good pictures.  (I was just being Tamad to carry all my bags.)  😀

A lot of climbers were climbing that day so the Ranger Station was quite busy and Vendors were everywhere selling snacks and camping gears. With total of 2 1/2 to 3 hours hike/climb via Ambangeg trail, this is considered as the easy trail.

12299169_10153289231438963_5160522064030130092_n

One thing I am so proud of is that i climbed up to the camp site with just my sleeveless shirt. Crazy, It was so cold and I’ve never been a fan of low temperatures.  This time I was just enjoying the fresh air and cold breeze.

We pitched our tents  and started the socials after dinner! Everyone was cool and having fun. We played games and talked the night away.

Team Lamig

True that the company makes the trip more meaningful. Everybody was laughing, eating, drinking, playing games and sharing life stories.

9:00pm/ November 20

Lights off.

Each have tents of their own. (borrowed ours) But because the temperature was too cold, some shared tents to make use their own bodies as heating agents! (hehe) i was in the same tent with my bestfriend Jill and JB. Luckily, I laid in between them so I get more heat. It was still too cold for me that we lock our legs and hands together and slept with our winter jackets!!!

3:00am / November 21

Wake up call for Summit. It was a long hike in the cold but every stop we make is just a wonder to behold. You turn off the headlights, you look up in the sky. And you will see the stars close and shining brighter than ever! I can’t even remember the many times I looked up and said “WOW.”

Too bad because I do not have a good quality camera that can capture those, but my eyes remember so well.

5:30am/ November 21

Others struggled with the climb to the summit because of the cold and thinner atmosphere, thus making breathing a little difficult. I myself rushed because I didn’t want to miss a single moment of the sun popping out on the mountain top.

It was indeed the best sunrise of my life.

The night before, I already told myself… “I think I’m going to cry when I see the sea of clouds at dawn.”  I did, for few minutes I put my earphones on and played my favorite uplifting music. Sat there in silence….

I couldn’t feel more peaceful, uplifted, happy, thankful. That moment was the best drug of my life.

12278952_10153287925343963_5759281599037747778_n

Everyone gathered at the summit to witness such marvelous scenery. Here and there you see the excitement and amazement that the sunrise brings to the spectators.

12247089_10153290711443963_1079697905491996238_n

The cold temperature and strong winds up on top was a bit distracting at 2 degrees Celsius. Some people hide in between bushes acting as wind breakers and for added heat. Make sure you savor the moment, take pictures or videos or simply watch the clouds move like the ocean waves. The infamous, sea of clouds.

IMG_3332IMG_3333

Of course it wouldn’t be complete without your goof friends in costume. Gives a more fun vibe to all the climbers around. Some may think they are crazy, but hey! Its good entertainment and Boys just wanna to have fun!

12240077_10153287843218963_4227952734190043988_n.jpg

Since everyone wanted to take good pictures, We stopped on every scenic spot. which is …. almost everywhere

10:30am/ November 21

Back at the Campsite for Breakfast, cleaning and packing. Everyone decided that we’re gonna stay for a night more in Baguio since we weren’t able to purchase tickets going back to Manila. Which isn’t a bad idea because of the good company.

We rented an apartelle for the night in Baguio which was just 2,500/php and good for 4-5 persons. We had dinner together drinking , chatting and exchanging pictures and videos.

November 22

Baguio

The others left early in the morning and I was left with my best friend and another guy from the group named Jai. We spent the day buying tickets going back home, walking around Burnham Park and Mine’s View Park and eating streetfoods.

It reminded me of my childhood visiting this place so often. A lot has changed, the crowd, houses, vendors, crazy businesses like taking pictures with a horse with pink dyed hair and The Saint Bernard seated all day at the bench. Which makes me feel a bit sad that these creatures were treated this way.

see my post about: Mt.Pulag: an unforgettable sea of fogs.

On a more positive note. Here’s to my sweet revenge climb…

Cagayan Valley of the Philippines

Sometimes what’s so good about working as a freelance model is that you get to travel for free! well actually, get paid for it as well!

It has been two months since CEZA (CAGAYAN ECONOMIC ZONE AUTHORITY) hired couple girls to be a part of their Tourism AVP shoot. This got me excited with my outgoing, adventurous nature and hard-working ass! (Ahem!)

It took us full 5 days to finish everything, from caving, boating, visiting churches, eating street foods, trekking, swimming, kayaking and a lot more! It was tiring yet fulfilling. Realizing how wonderful Cagayan Valley is generally speaking.

Here are some of the things we did for the shoot and for fun!

CALLAO CAVE

Cagayan River

Pottery Making

Tinupig

Boodle Fight

Cape Engano( just wow!)

First time seeing this view I was like “heaven on earth”

Chasing Sunrise at Crocodile Island

Batil-Patong

Visiting Old Churches
Tuguegarao’s special Halo-Halo
Swimming with tiny Jellyfishes (not fun)

Roadtrip 101: Tagaytay/ Alfonso Cavite

One spontaneous day, me and my friends decided to take on a road trip in a nearby town outside Manila.

Without having an actual Itenary we ended up at one of our friend’s ancestral home in Alfonso, Cavite.

Searching for a cool place to chill and hangout, we checked the river right next to my friend’s house.

Nothing fancy. Just a common tow river where locals wash their clothes and bathe with the man made pool. Water is cold so it’s nice o wash off our feet and do a little ‘picnic’

After a short walk going back to my friend’s house. We stopped by at the puto bongbong’s store which was surprisingly good and cheap! For only php 10.00!!!

Headed straight to Tagaytay for late lunch at  the infamous Bag of Beans.

Then to People’s Palace to end the day trip.

For a quick get away with really good company, we were able to enjoy the 1 1/2 hour drive away from Manila and de-stressed from work.

Tinuy-An Falls of Bislig City

Some call it the Little Niagra Falls of the Philippines.

Traveling in the South of the Philippine Archipelago, Ive come to realize how cheap it was to go around in the more secluded area. Even though Butuan gained a lot of attention from travel junkies like me because of the Enchanted River of Hinatuan, I would still consider this as an “off-beaten” spot. Approximately 3 hours down south of Butuan Airport. Bislig City is located at Surigao Del Sur, Mindanao.

Tinuy-An Falls

Boarbonan, Bislig City

Entrance fee: PHP50

Mandatory motorbike ride: PHP100

(they said this is for the tribesmen living nearby, youcan ask the driver to drive you back to your hotel)

Cottages are available for families to hangout and eat. There are three other things you can do here.

FIRST. rent a bamboo raft for PHP150 to pull you closer to the cascades of the waterfalls. The raft can accommodate many people but I had the raft all for myself.

Take a picture

SECOND .Hike up to the second and third tier of the falls. Fourth tier is hidden.

It is not far, but the stairs are a bit steep. Take a picture with the second and third tier

And at the top edge of the first tall tier where you can see the picnic area and the bamboo rafts.

These are for free but you can give a tip to the guide.

Tota Raft and Guide tip: Php200.00

THIRD. You can go swim anywhere you want, careful though cus the waters are 30ft deep and when its raining the waters run strong.

Revisiting Coron

So it’s been awhile since I posted on this travel blog.

I’m writing again because of the excitement of revisiting Coron, Palawan.

IMG_20141102_2

Yes! my favoroite destination in the Philippines. This time with a larger group and with my assistance as I have been to this place already. We will be spending four days in Coron and will be doing almost the same itenary as I did the first time. Simply because I want them to see the best of Coron.

I can’t wait for the trip diving underwater to those vibrant corals of Siete pecados and Lusong Coral Gardens which is not as par to many places or Islands I have been to around my country. (not even El Nido) Who knows, I might also scuba dive in one of those shipwrecks this time for a closer look.

Stay tuned for the detailed Itenary after the trip!

Apo Island with a checkmark

11667342_10153033162373963_9159101936361267582_n

Ok…so, I’ve been in the Ocean for God knows how many times and I really enjoy snorkeling just to see the colorful marine life of my country, Philippines.

Took it to the next level of underwater adventure. – Scuba Diving. Well it’s always on my to do list before I die, just didn’t have a travel buddy to go with.

Ive been looking for places where to take the PADI Open water course. (Coron, Cebu, Koh Tao, Bali) but ended up in Dumaguete because of the opportunity to fly to Cebu which is close by. When talking about Dumaguete to foreigners (other than it known as the perfect place to retire for expats). Apo Island always comes in mind. It is among the top diving spots in the Philippines with clear visibility and Rich Marine life. Actually famous for it’s Pawikan swimming around the Island.

Apo-Island-Dumaguete

Ok for a first timer… the first 10 minutes underwater was crucial.

spell… P-A-N-I-C… that was my longest stay underwater with all the heavy gears tied around you and you just gotta get a clear head to make sure you don’t forget any of those precautionary measures. And all the other things going in your mind to make sure you are doing the right thing, and you won’t DIE!

like…

“Can I pee wearing this wetsuit?,, wahhh I just rented this, what if other also peed in it..(ew!)”

“OK so I have a cough, would that be a problem?”

“Im thirsty, should I drink salt water?”

“OMG, the current is so strong, I might be taken away in the middle of nowhere and will live my life like PI, in the movie Life of Pi.”

“So many creatures down here, I hope they won’t attack me.”

but after learning the basics and being comfortable underwater. You discover that it is actually fun as long as you relax. Not to mention I got all excited after finishing the Open Water course and finally getting  a hold of my GoPro to take some pictures.

I don’t know if diving will be your thing but for me it is a MUST-TRY! especially you live in the tropical islands of the Philippines, Great dive sites are just around the corner!

Visiting another paradise before the summer ends

image Puerto Princesa holds three top destinations in the Philippines. Last year, I went to Coron and I was amazed by its majestic underwater world. Then Few weeks ago, I went Island hopping around Honda Bay which is 40 minutes away from the town proper of Puerto Princesa city Guess where to next week? The Island was tagged as the ‘Philippine’s last frontier.’ With it’s towering marble cliffs and enchanting lagoons. White sand beaches, mangrove forests and waterfalls. This too won’t disappoint for sure… EL NIDO

Siargao: The Jelly bucketlist

Booked a flight to Siargao in hopes of swimming with the sting less jellyfishes.

Siargao is a tear-drop shaped island in the Philippine Sea situated 800 kilometers southeast of Manila in the province of Surigao del Norte. It has a land area of approximately 437 square kilometers. The east coast is relatively straight with one deep inlet, Port Pilar. The coastline is marked by a succession of reefs, small points and white, sandy beaches. The neighboring islands and islets have similar landforms.

It would be the perfect weather to do so because summer just started in the Philippines. While others would fly via Butuan which is in Surigao del sur, We flew via Siargao which is in Surigao del norte because that’s where the jellyfish sanctuary is.

We arranged a transfer from the airport to the resort but unfortunately, the resort misunderstood where the pickup will be and went to the Surigao airport instead of the Siargao airport. When we discovered the error we did things on our own.

image

Took a two hour can ride from Siargao Airport to Dapa Pier where we will take the  boat on the way to our resort in Sohoton, Socorro. The pump boat was too expensive as it has to be a private one because of the resort’s location. We tried to widthraw money from atms but unfortunately there were only two banks in town. Eastwest bank and DBP bank and both did not accept the atm card of my colleagues, so we’d have to work with the cash we have on hand.

The pump boat costs us Php 3,500 pesos with the haggle which is good for 10-15 people. The Boat has to be big because the waves gets rough. It was a 2 hour long ride to which I just slept along the way due to lack of sleep the night before.

 Club Tara Resort

Location: Socorro, Surigao Del Norte

Price range: 3,000-6,000 per night

Review: The location to me was superb. The cottages were built right in the water, each having it’s own balcony.  The interior was in modern filipino style with wooden furniture and flooring. It is a place more for couples because the restroom does not have an exact partition between the sleeping area and restroom. But if you choose to relax some more indoors, A Jacuzzi is provided in each cottage.

aaa

Food here was not so great and is also very expensive. Mostly the basic cooking type of food. Small servings and ranges from 300-400 pesos per meal. I heard though that you can just buy fresh seafood at the wet market and have it cooked in the kitchen.

When we arrived the power went out and the generators broke. Felt like a thrilling scene from one “I know what you did last summer.” So we spent the night with no electricity.

DAY 1
7am Breakfast
9am Kayaking around the viccinity of the resort.
There are two sides where you can do kayaking or paddle boarding. The side on thw right there are no waves coming in because it is enclosed by the island itself. It’s a dead end there and no earth ti land your kayak to take a dip. But for sure you would enjoy the torquoise clear waters.
image

Right side of the island

On the other side where the ocean water comes in, the current can be a hassle as you paddle. There are two possible landings on this side. (Two small beaches) We chose the bigger one. Nothing special here though as it is not clean.

12pm Lunch
1pm Day tour 1
Registration
Jellyfish sanctuary
You ride a small bangka and paddle to the sanctuary. What i did for fun ia to help my boatman paddle so we get there faster.
image

They have the white (transparent) jellyfish and the brown ones. You can touch them but you are not allowed to swim in this area because the last timw somebody did. The jellyfishes died.
Hagukan cove
Also known as the luminous water cave. I was surprised thay it actually is. When I was swiming I already knew i wouldn’t get nice shots because I only have the gopro hero 3+ that lacks the night mode of the newest gopro hero 4. But viola!
image

no filter!
Spelunking and cliff diving
I forgot the name of the cave but climbing the cave passing through a body of water was new and exciting for me. It can be a bit slippery so you got to be carefl and don’t forget to bring your helmet and slippers. When you reach the top of the cave this is were you dive in to the water. I can swim pretty well but the problem is, Im scared of heights and It will be my first time to actually jump off a cliff!
image

image

yes this pic was before I jump

DAY 2

8am breakfast
10am Day tour 2
The part 2 of the tour was composed of few cave visits. About 10 minute boat ride from the resort itself.
We only did one because spelunking wasn’t their favorite and if I had known. I would wear a more proper outfit for it. Yes I was just on my bikini so i was worried with the bruises and scratches from caving. Especiallt two of the cave would require tou to duck your way in due to narrow openings.

To me, nothing special, but on the way to the caves we saw free swimming jellyfishes near the dock. We got all excited because after all, we went to Sohoton to swim with them.
There’s only two places I know where you can actually do that. Bohol and Siargao.

THE BUCKETLIST
image

Regardless of them being stingless, I was still scared to touch them. (i did though at the sanctuary, and my hands were all itchy after). So there goes my coolest picture of the year,so far!

Before ending the tour we asked if we could do some snorkeling. The current were so strong and rainshowers every now and then killed the fun. But we still get to check the bed of corals in Sohoton.
image

It reminded me of Siete Pecados in Coron.

1pm Lunch and pack up going back to Dapa port.

3pm Leaving Club Tara
It rained hard when we for back to the resort from the tour. So we waited a bit till it stop. It scared us that we might get stranded for another day and miss our flight back to manila.
We took the same boat from the tour, it is a bit small but it can make it through the waves on regular weather conditions.

Take note! Regular weather conditions. And during that time it’s like our left foot on the grave! It was a two hour long boat ride and telling yoh, It was the roughest boat ride I ever had. The current was so strong, it rained really hard so we were all wet. That scares me but I just put a music to kill the fear.
Good thing, we made it alive back to the port!

6pm Dapa Port
From the port we took a habal-habal (motorcycle) to the place where we were staying. It’s 45min-1 hour

Bollox Bar / White Paradise Beach Resort

Location: Baybay Burgos, Siargao

Price range: 1,200- 1,800 per night

Review: Booked this place because of the good reviews. It is owned by an English man named Alan who married a Filipina.
The food was fantastic! Wide varieties and can even request for what kind of food you want. Imported beers and steaks!
image

What struck me as I enter Bollox bar was the interior. I am a big fan of DIY interiors and this one comes off very artsy and fun, like the place I stayed in Camiguin. If you come visit at night, it’s even more unique. With the neon lights all over the floor and walls of the bar.
image

image

The bungalow was quite big. The couches were TOO big for the room giving more space to sleep. It has tv with cable. And A/C (but was not working that time), hot and cold shower and a balcony over looking the beach. Alan told us that if were lucky enough, we get to see the best sunrise of our life.

But luck was not on our side because it still rained at midnight.
The beach was good for snorkeling and swimming but it is the the spot for surfers.

image

After breakfast we headed to the airport where we flew from Siargao-Cebu-Manila.

We stopped by the surfing spots because all my surfer friends gave me an assignment of checking out the waves for them. I was also curious because I wanted to learn how to surf in the future.

This is not the end of my Surigao trip because later this year I’m coming back and flying via Butuan city to check the Enchanted River of Surigao del Sur.
image

BONUS!
A 4 hour stop over in Cebu.

Check out my blog about Manna’s Sutokil
